In the early 1990s, Lawndale was designated as a medically underserved area by the Illinois Department of Public Health. This designation meant that there needed to be more primary care providers in the community to meet the needs of the residents. The Health Center opened its doors in 1993 with two primary care physicians and a staff of six. We now have a staff of over 150 and offer a full range of primary and preventive healthcare services. We accept most major insurance plans and offer a sliding fee scale for those who are uninsured or underinsured.
